Description
2 pieces mid century fused orange glass ruffled bowl freeform dish Walter Jacobson For your consdieration are these 2 nice pieces of mid century fused glass. First is a beautiful large, fused glass bowl which is a bit of a mystery. It appears to be a classic Sydenstricker ruffled bowl but instead of the usual Sydenstricker signature in the center of the underside, it has an incised signature apparently by the artist who created it. To me it looks like "Jacobson" but I can't be 100% sure. I don't know if artists in the Sydenstricker glassworks ever signed their pieces individually or if this is by someone else who did their own piece in the style of Sydenstricker. I found a Jacobson online who does fused glass but his pieces are quite different in style from this, which again, seems to be very much like classic Sydenstricker. Regardless of who did it, it is in excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks or any issues to note and measures about 10-3/8” diameter x 1.75” high at the edge. The second is an interesting mid-century hot kiln formed “slumped” glass footed dish which looks to be done by the late master glass artist and Troy State Alabama University Art instructor Edwin D. Walter (1918-2001). Mr. Walter was a noted pioneer in the kiln-fired glass movement with his works exhibited in many South and Midwest Museums. Abstract orange, lacy design in clear glass. Sits on 3 feet formed in the slumping. I was unable to find a signature but the same shaped-piece with a different design can be seen on the worthpoint websight if you google "edwin walter art glass". The piece measures approximately 10" long x 7.5” at widest x 1-3/8” tall and is in excellent, undamaged condition Together they will weigh about 3 pounds packed safely. Local pickup near Boston welcome. I have other signed Sydenstricker pieces in separate listings & will combine shipping when safe and practical. Thank you!
