Description
Vintage Retro Orange Speckled Ginger Jar-Ceramic-Mid Century-10.5"-1960s-1970s Ginger jars originated in ancient China as containers for herbs and spices. during the Qin Dynasty (221-207 B.C.). When ginger became China's chief export to the Western world these were the jars they used for transport. Thereafter this shape of jar became known as a ginger jar. Of course the type of decoration to the jars has changed since ancient China! In the mid-century era we see these striking colored glazes in pottery and ceramics. This particular ginger jar has a speckled glaze but some refer to this style of glaze as a confetti glaze. Another feature of the ginger jar is its shape. The jar is hexagonal instead of the usual round. Also there are no markings which is common on pieces of this era. This lovely piece would certainly get noticed in any style decor! Excellent pre-owned condition. MEASUREMENTS: H 10 1/2" X W 5 1/2" X D 5 1/2" All items are shipped using recycled materials whenever possible. Please note: This is a vintage item. Vintage scales are ubiquitous on eBay. Most of the ones that have passed the century mark--or close to it--show their age. Not only did the detailed photos for this one show me exactly what I was getting, it was packaged with a great care, and shipped at a reasonable cost. Imagine my surprise when I opened the box and attached the red platform; not only did the scale work all the way to the limit, when I released the weight, the needle went right back to zero!
